The Christmas decorations in UPLB have been set up and, as has become tradition in recent years, the entire UPLB community looked forward to the lighting ceremony. This year, the event was held on November 19.
The program for the ceremony, titled Pasko sa Elbi: Isang Pasasalamat, was spearheaded by the Office of the Chancellor and the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA). The celebrated bright and colorful Christmas decorations, which for this year had the theme Paskuhan sa Barrio, have been set up with the help of the University Planning and Maintenance Office and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development.
Before the lighting, praiseworthy performances were given by the award-winning UPLB Choral Ensemble, Dr. Antonio Jesus Quilloy of the College of Economics and Management, the UPLB Street Jazz Dance Company, and the UPLB Filipiniana Dance Troupe. The event was graced by Chancellor Sanchez and his family, the university vice-chancellors, and a number of faculty members, staff, and students. Residents and visitors from the surrounding community were also present. The program was live-streamed via UPLB Live Streaming.
Setting up decorations and a giant Christmas tree near the UPLB main gate was first done in 2006. The lighting ceremony has become a tradition that signifies the beginning of the Christmas season in UPLB and a reminder that the first semester is coming to a close.
